Month: April 2016

[PRESS RELEASE] From Sub-Par to Superb

ORLANDO, Fla. – April 26, 2016 – For the past year, the owners of West Orange Country Club, located at 3300 W Orange Country Club Drive, have worked meticulously to improve the club they love.

West Orange had been in trouble for a number of years.  A group of members stepped in and decided to buy the club and do everything they could to save it.  Many were skeptical that anything could be do, but in a few months, the club is making an impressive comeback.

A review left on Yelp in June of 2012 displayed a common opinion held by those who have visited the club in years past:

“Solid golf course. Used to be a little nicer and more exclusive. It’s still a private club, but it’s not what it used to be… The course is quality. If they could somehow get some more members and put some money into the facilities like they have with the golf course, it would get the full five stars from me. If you can get on, whether it’s a tournament or some member for a day pass, I would recommend checking it out.”

Nick Slattery, managing partner, and his fellow owners are committed to getting the course to “what it used to be” and beyond that.

On March 27, the club hit 200 members. Slattery attributed the success to an increase in marketing efforts utilizing digital media and local television.

“A large part of this success has been our addition [of a] brand new website, an interactive and updated Facebook page, and also our commercial on the Bright House networks in our local community,” Slattery said.

In an open letter to the community on Facebook, Slattery salutes the club for its many improvements:

“As I’ve been told numerous times by members, the course has never been in better shape. I’ve gotten numerous phone calls from industry friends and fellow golf course managers that they’ve heard nothing but great things about our facilities and most especially the golf course. In addition, we have also had the tennis courts resurfaced, which was much needed. We have contracted Damon Ponzie as our new Instructor of Tennis here at West Orange, and he brings with him years of experience and a sccessful tennis school.”

In addition to the improvements and new features, WOCC will be hosting Future Generation Golf: Academy for Kids conducted by the club’s Head Golf Professional, Brendon Chase. The dining experience has also had continued success.

“Chef Michelle continues to wow everyone with her culinary skills and ability to create new menus each Wednesday and Friday night,” Slattery said.

The full version of the endearing letter can be found on Facebook, posted on the West Orange Country Club page on March 28, 2016.

The West Orange Country Club golf course is a Lloyd Clifton design built in 1967. Its challenging par 71 course is tree-lined with several small ponds and a creek that winds through the property. West Orange Country Club Spring 2016 Update

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to take a minute and send a letter to our membership and let you know what’s been going on here at West Orange Country Club. Our marketing plan has been on a roll and the membership numbers have continued to rise. When the club was purchased in July, we were down to 148 members. As of yesterday, we have hit the 200 mark for memberships. A large part of this successhas been our addition of a brand new website, an interactive and updated Facebook page, and also our commercial on the Brighthouse networks in our local community.

As I’ve been told numerous times by members, the course has never been in better shape. I’ve gotten numerous phone calls from Industry friends and fellow Golf Course Managers that they’ve heard nothing but great things about our facilities and most especially the golf course. In addition, we have also had the tennis courts resurfaced which was much needed. We have contracted Damon Ponzie as our New Instructor of Tennis here at West Orange, and he brings with him years of experience and a successful tennis school.

Brendon Chase, our Head Golf Professional, has also been contracted to have his own “Future Generation Golf: Academy for Kids” based here at West Orange Country Club. Brendon has been very successful in bringing younger families out to see our facilities and getting the younger generation involved in the game of golf. He is in the process of cleaning up the old pro shop and creating a classroom for these kids to use. Putting emphasis on the etiquette of the game as well as the golf swing, he teaches these kids at a young age about the great game of golf.

Chef Michelle continues to wow everyone with her culinary skills and abilities to create new menus each Wednesday and Friday night. The Chef’s table we hosted in February was a huge success and the Easter Brunch this Sunday had over 150 reservations. We thank everyone for your continued patronage and support, and promise to do more fun events each month for our members.

Lastly, I just want to thank all members for their patience and understanding as we’ve been getting this golf club back to where it needs to be. We have brought in many outside groups to help subsidize the club during this time, and hope that with continued increase in membership, we can start to phase out these large groups. Our goal in July was to remain a totally private golf club, and this continues to be our main goal here at West Orange. Again, thank you all for your continued support and understanding during this transitional time. Please continue to tell all your friends about our great Country Club in the Country, and the amazing staff we have here at West Orange Country Club.

Nick
